the book

August 29, 2008  -  News

the Reflections of Christ project has been a very very very big part of my professional and personal life for almost a year now. so it is sweet to see mark mabry's first ever book up on his publishers (deseret book) site - front and center - kind of like almost seeing the project come full circle. i've seen the design and layout and have to honestly say this is a must add to your collection. amazing pieces.

it looks like they are offering up free 8x10's of one of the most popular images in the set as well - i'm pretty sure those will retail for more than the actual book. jump on it.

here is the link.

and you can pre-order the behind the scenes documentary here.

tiffany and scott

August 27, 2008  -  Weddings

these two are a blast to be with. great personalities and very easy going. about two months ago i sat down with both of them in studio and did an interview session for their date video. the question came up about their first kiss and they both kind of just looked at each other and started laughing like you wouldn't believe. a lot of people think back at their first kiss together as a one of a kind experience - not these two. they both agreed the first big moment was a little awkward for some odd reason - and they laugh their heads off about it.

here is the photosession portion of their video at the mesa az temple with their photographer amy jo nelson

aubree & chris

August 21, 2008  -  Weddings

chris, aubree, and i met about a month ago to shoot their date video up in north mesa. we met at a golf course and as soon as we arrived it became apparent that the az monsoons were going to ruin the day and we were going to have to reschedule. as we stood in the parking lot mulling over our options this huge gust of wind kicks up and launches some of the awning from the course into the parking lot - smashes this pimped out black chevy truck - and then skips into the middle of mckellips road where it stops traffic in three lanes.

so what does that have to do with the photo session video below - absolutely nothing - other than the fact that we were amazed to watch it all go down.

enjoi.

gramps

August 14, 2008  -  Weddings

last week i was walking through the slc airport security and i look down the line and see TYLER B. we ended up hanging for the entire flight ( sorry about that man ) and chatting about his dental school and other things. during the chat he told me he had this funny photo of his grandfather and me hanging out during their reception. i immediately remembered his grandfather shadowing me the entire night with his awesome little sony cam - making sure i was doing my job. great family. good times. thanks for sending this tyler.

cutting your footage

August 14, 2008  -  News

thanks for all the emails as of late. i'm not sure where the influx of traffic has come from but it has been fun to answer emails about cameras - gear - editing - etc - and to chat about things in general. one question that keeps coming up in emails and questions from fam and friends is about hard drives. seems like nearly everyone is shooting massive amounts of photos and video these days- and most of those are super hi res or hi definition files - which means in order to cut /edit/store that media you have to have a computer and lots and lots of storage space to hold it all. so . . . . . there are two types of hard drives to look into:

1. internal drives. these are the best option in my opinion because they are uber fast and affordable as well. i cut on a mac pro eight core machine loaded with 4 terrabytes of storage. i have had an insane amount of success with the hitachi deskstar drives - you can purchase them at macsales. get your drives BIG and FAST. 1tb at 7200rpm is perfect - you can slam a grip load of hd footage down on a stack of those.

2. external drives. these are a great option if you cut on the run or on a machine that won't take extra internal drives (like a macbook pro/imac/ mini/ etc.). they are muy expensive but just about as fast as internal drives and you can take them anywhere and everywhere you want. the big key with external drives is to get them as fast as they come (7200rpm) and make sure they have high speed connections. you can't cut hd video off an external drive that only connects via usb2 . . . you'll be pulling your hair out by the time you have 2 minutes of footage on your timeline. i have stuck with two brands over the years that have been rock solid - lacie and G-Tech. the drive above is by far my favorite so far . . . the g-technology Q drive. small - fast - quiet - and good looking.

tiffany and jared

August 12, 2008  -  Weddings

last week i had the chance to fly up to slc again to shoot tiffany and jared's photoshoot at the SLC temple with mark mabry. mark held down a nice session and tiffany and jared made it look easy. it was pretty funny because at one point mark asked tiffany and jared to kiss - to which tiffany started laughing at. i thought man that's odd - then she tells us that she needed some time to warm up - jared had literally driven into town an hour or so before. she needed some time! classic. pretty obvious these guys were having a good time.

here is the photosession of their video. they'll be married this week in the slc temple (where it stays light until 9 pm or so . . . weird).

anna and dominick . . . . . and conner

August 8, 2008  -  Weddings

here are the first few minutes of anna and dominicks wedding film - shot at the villa sienna in gilbert. i love that it worked out in a way that allowed me to use natural audio for the first few minutes . . . . and the conner sequence worked so well.

have a great weekend.
