more test footage
|
| i have been meaning to post this footage for a while but this summer has turned out to be so much more busy than i had planned!
a while ago i purchased and started testing a new 35mm adapter that i want to use for a few personal projects. these adapters are meant to allow a standard video camera to use 35mm lenses to get a more film type look -aka insane depth of field. i have been testing it out in different scenarios and getting it ready for a few personal projects i have coming up. below is a test clip from the back yard with the kids. just for fun. |

Super 8mm
|
| i have been playing around with super 8mm film for the past few months trying to see if it is a viable option for shooting parts of my weddings with. it has become all the rage in the wedding video world but the footage i have seen has either been shoot poorly or the actual transfer from film to digital was horrendous. after shopping a few transfer houses i finally got some great results and am looking to shoot some film in the future. if you are interested please contact me for rates.
(techie reading . . . . skip to the video if you have zero interest in the tech side of this post) here is a clip from one of my tests on a small handheld super 8 camera. all the footage was shot on the beach on a kodak daylight stock - 500 asa - which i had pull processed 1 stop at the lab. i'm loving the way it's holding the colors - something extremely important when i shoot weddings. and the best part about it all is these guys are processing the film in hd. it holds up amazing on a 42in plasma. its all about the details. |

collin and amanda date video
|
| this is an oldy (a little over a year ago) but a goodie. i remember shooting this in absolute zero light in an ice skating rink and walking away after the date shoot wondering what the heck i was going to do with the footage. i immediately hit my studio that night and started playing with a few shots and was loving the grainy look and the crazy lighting. one of my favorites to date. . . . . which is probably because it highlights my stellar ice skating skills!
enjoi. |

az smiles
|
| i am not going to lie and say that i love going to the dentist. most dentists offices are freaky. they smell weird - they aren't fun - and they don't have any wi-fi. or so i thought. earlier this year i somehow got connected with dr. sheldon sullivan in gilbert az. this guy is like the rockstar of dentists here in the valley and after hanging out with him and his staff for a few days of shooting i realized why. they bake cookies in their office - yes cookies. they also give these hand treatments to help you calm down during your visit. that is what is what the dentists office should be. i think the next step is to slap a nintendo wii in there and call it a day. at that point i'll block out half a day for my dentist visit.
here is the video we put together for dr sullivan. never before have i been so surprised as i was when the gentleman in the last sequence started to get emotional about his experience with the dr. the proof is in the pudding. you can learn more about dr sullivan by visiting their site AZSMILES - where you can see more interviews and footage. |

simple acts
|
| earlier this week i received a call from one of my amazing clients who we shot a wedding for earlier this year. she was asking how the cut on her wedding was coming and we chatted for a while about everything that was going on in her and her husbands lives. we hung up and that was that.
then yesterday (friday) i get this email from that clients husband with an itunes gift card and a note - "hopefully you can get some music that will keep you inspired as you edit all your weddings!" amazing how just a simple little act can lift you up after a LONG week. plus there is no easier way to my heart than through an itunes gift card. i give them to my wife and then steal them back before she has a chance to redeem them. pathetic i know. on an unrelated note here is the intro cut for glenn and paige. have a great weekend. |

broken hill
|
| i had a great lunch in LA last week with my friend dagen merril and some very talented filmmakers who are looking to potentially do some work here in arizona. i have a lot of respect for those in the film industry who are making it happen . . . it is a monumental task to complete a full feature film from start to finish and these guys are getting it done. dagen recently completed production on his latest feature broken hill down in Australia. looks like it is going to be a stellar film with some great talent. check out audience alliance if you get a chance today - great studio doing some great things.

kristen and michael the first 6 minutes
|
| kristen and mike were married earlier this year at mccormick ranch in scottsdale. i love shooting there because i manage to get some great shots even when i know i didn't plan some of them. the lighting is usually fantastic - especially during that golden hour right after the ceremony. excellent wedding. kristen and mike worked hard on their music selections as well - which always pays off in the end. here are the first 6 minutes of their wedding film. enjoi.

| it never fails i get a few emails asking "why the eastvalleyproductions watermark?" answer - the internet is full of lame people who like to steal other peoples work.
just had to get that off my chest. |

filmmaking
|
| i subscribe to plenty of podcasts - some good - some really really lame. every once in a while i come across one that is a must have and i will try and do better at sharing those rare gems as i find them.
apple is putting on a bi-weekly podcast called the Set to Screen Series - its a behind the scenes look and educational series on a feature film currently in production by an award winning director. you've seen his work before - and if you have any passion for filmmaking you owe it to yourself to subscribe. its free for crying out loud. so instead of watching re-runs of lost this summer or wasting your time on myspace go out and learn something about the art of filmmaking - click here to subscribe |

| and here are a few shots from a commercial shoot i was on last week with veritas pictures - a piece on illegal immigration. good times. |

blog badges
|
| they are the latest rage in the blogosphere and they are a great way to share some love with all that visit the site. so next time you get a free minute scroll all the way down to the bottom of the blog and check out the links . . . . my blog badges highlight the vendors i recommend as hands down the best in the business - photographers - web designers - hosting companies - and more to come. you will also see the evp films amazon site where you can purchase books/magazines/gear/gadgets that i recommend. come on it's 4th of july weekend . . . . what else are you going to do?
the plan is to add a new link about once a week . . . . . if you are interested in being a part of that list just holler. |
